On July 18 and 19, 2015 (a Friday and Saturday) DC50 painters and floorlayers met for an extensive course in leadership and supervision. The class, organized by Ray Fujii of the Painting and Decorating Contractors Association of Hawaii (PDCA) was supported by the DC50 employers to promote better learning in supervisory skills for their supervisors and future leaders.
The course, made up of several modules and activities, covered important subjects including team building, communication, safety, contracts and planning. Students also learned what makes a good supervisor and how to lead crews to get the best results.
For this class, Ken Seal from the Finishing Trades International (FTI) was an instructor along with Ray Fujii and Richard Vieira. All offered examples of their experience to the group who also shared their knowledge of jobsite conditions. It was a great exchange of material and everyone benefited from the discussions.
Special thanks go out to Zelinsky Painting and In Line Flooring for sending their employees to the training.
